Rob Edwards along with O'Neil represent the early names under consideration to replace Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was sacked on the weekend following the team's ten-game winless start to the top-flight season.

And both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the team - are among the options to be considered by the Wolves leadership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

However the former Luton Town head coach - who made over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves directors as they start the search of hiring a fresh manager.

Gary O'Neil is additionally appearing as a surprise contender, even though he would be a surprising choice given he was released by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed which means the club would not need to provide any compensation.
