The acclaimed animation studio has shared the teaser for its new animated feature, The Hoppers Project, and it showcases a concept that is equally absurd and entertaining.

Storyline Summary

Hoppers follows a young nature enthusiast named Mabel Tanaka (played by Piper Curda), a teenage animal admirer who develops the skill to talk to wildlife thanks to using some Avatar-esque invention created by one of her college teachers.

According to one scientist, ‘The conventional approaches to understand animals just weren't working,” states one of the scientists that created the brain-transfer tech.

How Hoppers Functions

Dubbed “The Hoppers Device,” the technology essentially operates similar to the mind-link system featured in James Cameron's Avatar series films, but with one key caveat: Rather than awakening as a giant navy-colored extraterrestrial, the protagonist's awareness is shifted into a mechanical animal body. In particular, a robotic beaver-form.

Conflict and Characters

Similar to Avatar's protagonist Jake, Mabel soon ends up getting in a bit too deep with the denizens of the animal kingdom, unintentionally sparking an creature rebellion spearheaded by a regal monarch butterfly (voiced by Meryl Streep) and the leader of the beavers (Bobby Moynihan), who are resolved to “defeat the humans.”

In one scene, antagonist Mayor Jerry (Jon Hamm) is trapped in his car by a pair of beavers and a reptile, who subsequently intimidate him using his cellphone's text-to-speech function.

Premiere Date

The Hoppers Movie arrives in cinemas on March 6.
